Beach • Yugawara (Yoshihama)
概要
Yoshihama (吉浜) is the swimming beach for Yugawara-machi. The sand is volcanic black, characteristic of the eastern Izu coast, and the water tests AA on Kanagawa Prefecture’s summer bathing-water quality ranking - the top tier. The beach itself runs about 500 metres, with a modest parking lot and a small line of seasonal beach houses (海の家) during the open season.
The swimming season is short: mid-July to the end of August each year, with lifeguards on duty. Outside that window the beach is accessible and pleasant for a walk but not officially open for swimming. Parking is ¥1,000 per day in peak season; the beach itself is free.
Access from Yugawara Station is a 5-minute bus ride to the 「海の家」 stop. The bay is sheltered enough that the waves are gentler than the more exposed Atami and Ito beaches further south, which makes this a reasonable family option. Pair with the Fukuura fishing port if you want a coastal half-day.
