Farm experience • Yugawara hillsides
About this place
Yugawara’s citrus identity runs through every cafe, ryokan, and gift shop in town, and the source is these hillside orchards. The participating farms sit on terraces overlooking Sagami Bay, 10-20 minutes by shuttle from the station. The format is straightforward: pay the entry, get a small basket, eat as many mandarins as you want on-site, and optionally take a takeaway portion for an extra fee.
Pricing is ¥300 for adults, ¥250 for middle schoolers, and ¥200 for ages 3-6 at the member farms. The ¥300 adult rate is unusually low compared to similar experiences elsewhere in Kanto. A free shuttle runs from Yugawara Station on the most active weekends (Oct-Nov); confirm current schedule on the Yugawara Tourism site before planning.
Season is roughly October 11 to December 17, with peak ripeness mid-November. Earlier in the season the fruit is more tart; later, sweeter. A visit runs 1-2 hours on site. Pair with a Yoshihama beach walk (out of swimming season) for a half-day on the coastal side of town.
