About this place

and garden Museum Cafe sits inside a small art museum at 623-1 in the upper Yugawara valley. The cafe draws on a tofu programme from a local specialist shop, Jūni-an (Juni-an), which gives the savoury menu an unusual centre of gravity - tofu-forward rather than coffee-forward. The signature sweet is a hōjicha parfait; the savoury plates rotate seasonally.

The real draw is the terrace. Thirty indoor seats, twenty on the terrace, and the terrace seating has a foot bath on it - a proper warm-water immersion, set into the patio, beside a shallow water garden with reeds. It is one of the quieter places to sit in Yugawara, and it is specifically the opposite of the station-area cafe cluster’s pace.

Hours are 10:00 to 16:30. Closed Wednesdays. Phone is 0465-63-8686. The museum itself is small and worth a 20-minute walkthrough for the ticket holder; the cafe operates independently and does not require museum admission.
