Plan this route
Check the trail before the train.
This route is simple if the weather is good and your shoes are real. Treat the hike as the anchor, then make the bath and dinner forgiving.
Estimated budgetLow-medium: train fare, cafe breakfast, day-use bath, and casual dinner.
EffortHigh physical effort, low booking effort. The risk is trail/weather judgment, not reservations.
Booking order
Check first
Read the Shiroyama hiking notes and confirm you want the full 13.6km loop.
If that sounds like too much, switch to Manyo Park before you leave Tokyo.
Pack for
Bring trail shoes, water, and a towel for Kogome no Yu.
The bath is the recovery plan, not a backup.
Keep dinner easy
Use Ouchi de Pizza near the station unless you reserve Torisuke in advance.
After the loop, the right dinner is the one that does not punish timing drift.
Morning
Part 1 of 3
08:30Fuel up
Yugawara Cafe
Station-front coffee and bread before you commit to the ridge. Use the bathroom, fill water, and leave before the day warms up.
09:15Historical hike
Shiroyama Historical Hiking Course
A 13.6km loop from the station tracing Minamoto no Yoritomo's escape route - summit, castle-ruin markers, and Hakone views if the weather cooperates.
Afternoon
Part 2 of 3
14:30Tea reset
TEA STAND SAGYO
Back near the station, take the smallest possible pause: serious tea, no long sit-down, no heavy meal before the bath.
15:30Recovery bath
Kogome no Yu
Bus or taxi up to the municipal bath next to Manyo Park. This is where the hike turns from achievement into a good day.
Evening
Part 3 of 3
18:30Easy dinner
Ouchi de Pizza
Four minutes from the station, forgiving if the hike ran long, and exactly the right level of commitment after 13.6km.
20:00Optional last drink
Tamari Bar
Only if you still have legs. It is one minute from the station, so the train remains in control of the evening.
Last train
The route is built to finish near Yugawara Station. Check the JR return window before dinner, especially if you add the optional bar stop.
How to use this
Honest note
Do not turn this into a tasting itinerary. The route works because the hike is the main event and everything after it is close, warm, and easy.
Adjustments
Swaps
- Too hot or too wet: swap the full hike for Manyo Park, Genkan Terrace, and Miyakami no Yu.
- Want a real sit-down dinner: reserve Torisuke and move dinner earlier so the kamameshi timing does not threaten the train.
Keep planning
