About Fukiya
Fukiya is a sukiya-style ryokan up the valley from the station, built around a raked-gravel garden. Dinner and breakfast are both served in your room, which makes it one of the easiest ryokan in town to do with children.
There's a children's menu that's easier than the adult kaiseki, toys in the private bath, and a family page (in Japanese) that walks through it all. Under-twos stay free, and a child's meals are about half the adult price.
The hill is steep, so take a taxi from the station. It's about eight minutes. The English site covers rooms, baths and booking.

The baths
Seven baths in all. The large bath and rock open-air bath swap between men and women at midnight, and run from 15:00 to 9:30 the next morning.
The three private baths are the best part: one hinoki tub on the third floor, booked through the ryokan's LINE for 40 minutes, and two bigger hinoki tubs on the roof, open to the sky, that you can use whenever the lamp by the lift says they're free. Guests with tattoos are welcome in the private baths. There's a foot bath on the roof terrace too.
