Hakone's Deer, and the Question for Yugawara's Mikan

In October 2026 Nippon TV followed deer through Hakone and Odawara mikan farms that have lost half a harvest. Our groves are the slope between them.

For two days in the middle of October 2026, Nippon TV stayed with the deer in Hakone. We live on the slope between that town and Odawara's mikan.

On 13 October, Nippon TV News ran the first report above: deer increasing in Hakone and the tourist districts, and damage to crops.

A day later, Nippon Television News Japan published the English one, Deer surge hits Hakone, farms suffer. Deer on the golf courses and the roads. In Odawara, mikan farmers who have lost half a harvest.

The slope between the two reports

Kanagawa's fiscal 2025 deer plan still records no notable farm damage from deer here, more of them caught in the mountains, and concern that the range is spreading. The management cull is 30, up from 20 the year before, after a year at 70. We followed that swing in Deer moving into the mountains above Yugawara.

The terraces are not empty while we wait. Nippon TV has already filmed the macaques and the citrus damage at Yugawara Onsen, and Living with the T1 troop says what to do when you meet one. The fruit and the season are in Yugawara's citrus and the mikan picking guide.

Hakone, Yugawara and Atami share the coast, so a night among them starts with the comparison of the three towns. After a loss like Odawara's, are these groves next? The reports and the plan are on Yugawara wildlife.
