About Hoshigayama Park Satsuki-no-sato
For two weeks at the start of summer, 50,000 satsuki azaleas cover this hilltop in pink and red, with Sagami Bay and the Manazuru peninsula below. Climb up to the lookout, where couples ring the Tomoai bell, and bring a picnic.
During the bloom there's a small market of local vegetables, fruit, jam and tea at weekends, and free buses from Yugawara Station on Saturdays and Sundays. The rest of the year it's a quiet walk through silver grass.
